The Cleave table is functional sculpture, a solid oak exploration of construction and deconstruction. Construction starts by gluing two chunks of oak together with a layer of paper between. After turning it into a pill shape, I split it in half at the paper joint with the help of a vegetable cleaver. One half became the top, the other got halved again, hamburger folded, and glued back together to make the base. Funnily enough, the word cleave means both “to split apart” or “adhere together”
