Stick Bug started as an interesting lumberyard find, a piece of Red Oak with a gentle sigmoid curve, perhaps from a shaded tree twisting for more light. I wanted to preserve this evidence of past life and imbue the bench with whimsy. With its six alternating legs, the bench is reminiscent of a walking stick or stick bug, an insect disguised as wood.
